Ok, there’s some nuance, we have a Skunkworks division and launch vertical SaaS companies like Instill Video and do NFT drops, all while keeping a laser focus on our enterprise sales targets for our core consulting business. We also support AI Safety and brain-computer interface research as part of an active and academic community.

We are looking to hire a Marketing Associate who aligns with our philosophy and can help our Director of Marketing take our initiatives to the next level.

About the Marketing Associate Role

The Marketing Associate is a confident self-starter and generalist who lines up resources and priorities for a distributed Marketing and Sales team. This opportunity is a unique chance to deepen your B2B marketing skills during a key growth period.

The Marketing Associate will project manage deadlines, details, HubSpot, and GA reporting. They’ll also drive cross-functional internal communications and connect with partners and vendors. In true start-up style, the Marketing Associate will organize and support logistics for all the things: paid media, podcasts, events, sponsorships, performance marketing, website, brand, partnerships, social media platforms, and more.

It’s a lot. 

And a lot of fun. And if it sounds like the scope and pace you like, you should definitely apply. More than a taskmaster, your job is to keep the big picture in mind and make sure all the pieces come together to make it real. In this role, you'll:

  • Project management across all marketing functions: paid and performance media, creative asset production and delivery, calendars, and scheduling, creative requests, events, sponsorships, vendors, and partners.
  • Be a nimble prioritizer of various functions based on A/B test results, leading and lagging metrics, and strategic direction. Adjust routines over time as needed.
  • Prepare first drafts of emails, case studies, newsletters, landing pages, and forms in HubSpot and manage stakeholder feedback until the deliverable is live. Social media posts and other communications as needed.
  • Pull regular metrics reports from HubSpot. Troubleshoot attribution of leads and work cross-departmentally to ensure accurate data.
  • Support demand generation and pipeline optimization. Prioritize communication and goal alignment with the Sales team, coordinating lead generation strategy plans, lead scoring and ROI-based decision making.
  • Content is a top priority for Marketing. Optimization of social channels, video and written content and SEO is key for success. 
  • Try out new tools. You’ll thrive in this position if you say, have a “Tools to Try '' bookmark on your browser right now and adopt new platforms with ease and enthusiasm. Our Skunkworks division creates 2-3 new tools each week and you’ll demo these MVPs, research them internally, and draft descriptions of them.
  • Deliver on department KPIs aligned to AE Studio’s software consultancy, but have a working knowledge of our Skunkworks division and the AI Safety/BCI research efforts.

Qualifications for the role:

  • B2B marketing experience, experience sharing revenue goals with Sales.
  • Confidence and quick mastery of existing and emerging platforms: Trello, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Twitter, Slack, Figma, Canva, Meta, Google Ad Suite etc.
  • Experience with AI and emerging models: ChatGPT, Midjourney, Claude, and others.
  • Familiarity with paid and performance media metrics as benchmarks for a successful growth marketing strategy.
  • Data-driven mindset: Hyper curious and always checking our KPIs, metrics and reports to understand and influence future initiatives.
  • Experience with pipeline optimization driving KPIs, metrics collection and reporting. Understand and speak to an ROI-driven marketing and sales strategy. Identify changes in metrics over time. HubSpot experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ICP, TAM, and audience segmentation strategies. 
  • Confidence with monthly budget; experience tracking department spending, facilitating payments, managing contracts and anticipating key renewal and other dates.
  • 1-2 years experience in marketing or related field; will consider entry-level candidates with compelling internships or project experience.

  • AE Studios believes in fair and equitable pay. Annual compensation for this role is $60,000 - $85,000 per year and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills.

Working at AE means receiving equity in some of our client projects and in the Skunkworks projects we incubate. The equity granted is priced at a value of $0 when you receive it. If it were otherwise, you'd be forced to pay taxes. But to be clear, there are no free lunches, only the choice of who pays for your sandwich.

At AE, the equity you receive is not free to AE. We invest millions annually in Skunkworks projects - paying our employees to build technology for which no client pays a bill. We receive equity from certain clients, which means we accept less in terms of our billable rate. We then pass that equity on to our employees. Sure it's priced at $0 on day 1 - a call option on a stock trading at $100 with a strike price of $100 is priced at $0 today for tax purposes, but you'd want to receive that option. If you received that option on a dozen stocks, you'd be fairly confident that some of them would be worth a lot more than $0.

Offering this equity (by investing in Skunkworks or offering clients a lower rate) comes out of AE's margins. Theoretically, we should be lowering salaries to compensate. But we're competitive on that front as well. Over the long-term, we believe AE employees who stick around are likely to fare extremely well monetarily (no legal promises). We think long-term. You should too when you choose your employer.

We are looking to hire people who think long term. People create exponentially more value here in their 3rd or 4th year rather than their 1st or 2nd, and that only increases. The value you create leads to more equity issued every year, and you retain it while you remain at AE or at a Skunkworks co that spins out, in order to free up equity for others, which is how we afford to be generous with the equity.

* Disclaimer: If you leave AE on good terms, you can retain 20% of your equity if you continue to send leads our way, share our core values, etc. If you leave AE for your own AE-incubated Skunkworks project (or someone else's), you retain 100% of your equity. Folks create exponentially more value here in their 3rd and 4th years than their 1st or 2nd - we want folks who think long-term like we do.
